East Cleveland Basketball Club has today been awarded £720 from the Thirteen Community Fund, an initiative aimed at supporting local community groups and projects. This funding is set to enhance the club's efforts in providing quality basketball coaching to the youth in the area, fostering both their athletic skills and personal development.
The Thirteen Housing Group, a prominent social housing provider in the North East of England, administers the Thirteen Community Fund. Thirteen Housing Group is dedicated to creating positive impacts in the communities they serve, not only by offering housing solutions but also by supporting local initiatives that promote social, economic, and physical well-being.
Coaching youth basketball is pivotal for several reasons. It encourages young people to engage in physical activity, teaches teamwork and discipline, and helps build self-esteem and resilience. Moreover, structured sports programs like those at East Cleveland Basketball Club provide a safe and supportive environment where young athletes can thrive and develop their talents.
The club has expressed immense gratitude for the support from Thirteen Community Fund. "We are incredibly thankful for this generous contribution," said Head Coach Thomas Robinson. "This funding will allow us to offer a whole new mini basketball session on a fortnightly basis, as well as enrol our coaches on Basketball Englands new 'Slam Jam' program. It’s not just about basketball though; it’s about giving options for children to socialise, improving communication and developing their skills and opportunities to grow in a sport that we all love."
This grant represents a significant boost for the club's mission to nurture young talent and promote the sport of basketball in East Cleveland.
The partnership between East Cleveland Basketball Club and Thirteen Housing Group exemplifies how community support can create lasting positive change, empowering young individuals and fostering a sense of community pride.
